This dense specimen is nearly a half pound and is a great example of Biotite (Mica) from Troy Hill in Ontario, Canada. It's a little flaky, and the true characteristics of Mica can easily be seen. Deep rich black in color. Very nice specimen.

Icelandic Spar

This is a very clear piece of Icelandic spar. This mineral is also called optical calcite due to it's refraction. Refraction doubles any text or images that are viewed through the specimen. So the clearer the specimen, the better the refraction can be seen. Try viewing all sorts of things through this specimens to see refraction for yourself.

Pyrite in Matrix from Peru

Most of the pyrite crystals I've seen are usually square. So these beautiful decahedron crystals were a surprising to me. The crystals really stand out from the matrix they are embedded in.

Hemimorphite from Arizona

This Hemimorphite specimen comes from the ' 79 mine from Gila Co. Arizona. Unlike some of the other crystals we've had in the gallery this one doesn't have individual crystals. Instead the crystals cover one side of the matrix, almost like bubbles in a bath. In fact the crystals are shaped like bubbles too.

Sulfur w/ Calcite from Michigan

Sulfur is such a fun mineral. While the crystals are pretty wiht their sunny yellow color its the smell they give off that is what I find the most endering. Although the smell sulfur gives of isn't the best, having a mineral that effects more of the senses is cool.
